Latin USA: Celebrating Hispanic Cultural Heritage Airs Nationally

FALLS CHURCH, VA – MHz Networks Eye-Openers presents Latin USA: Celebrating Hispanic Cultural Heritage on Saturday, October 8th at 9 PM ET.

Hosted by Roxana Solano, the program showcases the many ways in which Latino culture influences American popular culture as a whole, and profiles some notable Latino Americans who have broken through to the mainstream.

The program segments include:

A tour of the Smithsonian Latino Center's exhibit American Sabor: Latinos in U.S. Popular Music, which showcases the flavor, or "sabor" of Latin music in the United States. The exhibition focuses on five major centers of Latino popular music production in the years after World War II in New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, San Antonio, and San Francisco, which represent the remarkable diversity and impact of this music.

A visit to the Smithsonian Folklife Festival's Colombia: The Nature of Culture showcase, which highlighted six eco-systems, from the Andes mountains to the Amazon Rainforest, the Southeastern Plains and the hilly coffee region of Caldas, and the urban centers of Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali. Roughly one hundred Colombian artists participated in the two-week Festival.

An interview with Maria Celeste Arrarás, the host and producer of the popular Spanish-language news program Al Rojo Vivo Con Maria Celeste, who was the first Telemundo personality to co-host The Today Show on NBC.  Based in Miami, Maria Celeste is one of the most prominent Latina journalists in the U.S.

An interview with Pedro Biaggi, the host of the popular morning drive show Pedro en la Manana! on El Zol 99.1-FM in Washington DC. Pedro draws an estimated audience of half a million from Delaware to southern Virginia. He is active in charities that benefit children and immigrants, and is another outstanding example of Latino Americans who are making their mark in the U.S. mainstream.
